New Year's Resolutions 2018


Here we are, top of 2018. I'm not going to lie, but the last few months of 2017 were not a walk in the park for me. More on this at some other point, but needless to say I am happy that it's a new year and a fresh start. I've taken the first few weeks of the new year to reflect on what I'd like to work on in 2018. Check out my top 5 areas that I hope to focus on in the coming months.

1. BALANCE

My job is just one of those gigs that takes a lot out of you - mentally and physically. Not only do I travel and have to be away from my family for long periods of time, when I am home I'm constantly fielding calls, distinguishing fires and all around preoccupied. Now that I have a little family at home I'm learning the need to balance my time better. My goal in 2018 is to work on prioritizing and not depleting myself to the point where I don't have enough to give to those who matter. My kids really need me now, my parents are getting older and need me and I need to focus on my relationship at home. As mothers and business women know, sometimes the hubs is the last on the priority list, but we are going to work on that in 2018.

2. WORK ON A HEALTHIER ME

Yes, I need to work out, but this goes beyond that. I know we all say it at the beginning of every new year, but I really want to bring in healthier food options to the house and balance that with more outdoor activity. If I get any free time I tend to curl up on the couch and catch up on my reality TV, but this year I want to be active. Be it taking a walk to the beach, a hike or a bike ride, I just want to get my blood flowing. Who's with me?

3. READ MORE

This is on my list every year. Before kids I was a big reader. I love to get lost in a good story, but I'm usually ready for bed as soon as the kids are down. The only time I get to delve into a good book is when I'm on a long plane ride (our 36 hour Singpaore trip anyone?). This year in order to hold myself accountable I'm participating in a book club. I'm hoping that would incentive me to stick to it and not fall behind. Here are the two book clubs I'm looking at:

4. UP MY SELF CARE GAME

With all the craziness and people I worry about, I tend to put myself last. That's going to change in 2018. I really want to take a few minutes a day to meditate and set my intentions for the day and an hour a week to do something for myself, be it a facial, massage, pilates class, whatever it is, that fine, but no phone and no work emails, just me and my thoughts. That actually sounds exhausting, but that's what the meditation is for!

5. WRITE MORE

This blog is example number one, I love to write, BUT I fail to find the time and let my passion fall by the way side. I tried hard to keep up with my blog, but with everything going on with work those first few months of 2017 and the craziness of life the last few months I just wasn't able to dedicate the time. I've have always wanted to write a book in my life. Even if I get an outline or a chapter done this year I will feel accomplished. I'm using this blog to exercise my ability and readiness to jump into something that big.
